About this place
Wrapping the rice ball in seaweed just before eating gives it a satisfyingly crisp texture. Hiatari’s onigiri lunch comes with 2 varieties of onigiri, 2 small side dishes, 2 pieces of fried chicken, miso soup and pickles. Diners have found salmon, yukari rice seasoning, nozawana greens with dried whitebait, and kombu among the rice-ball fillings, while the sides—such as potato salad and simmered dishes—vary from day to day. One diner who wondered whether they could finish 2 rice balls later recalled that the portion was just right.
Other sides noted by diners include simmered eggplant, tomato and okra dressed with sesame and bonito flakes, and mushrooms with ume plum and ponzu. These changing accompaniments bring variety to the weekly lunch. One diner also remembered the extra fried chicken as a highlight. As the lunch changes with the day of the visit, the combination on offer is part of the appeal.
For a different lunch, there is curry rice made with domestically produced beef, or mixed rice with coarsely ground pork mince and 6 kinds of vegetables. For something lighter, the hot sandwiches come with salad and include ham and egg or ham and cheese. One diner chose an egg hot sandwich with salad and drip coffee, making it a good option for a meal enjoyed alongside coffee.
To finish on a sweet note, waffles come with whipped cream and vanilla ice cream, while the panna cotta is served with tea sauce. Cheesecake is also available. The tea selection is broad, including medicinal-herb and herbal blends, and one diner noted that the black tea was served in a pot. Set options add a drink, dessert or both to lunch, making it easy to linger over the meal.
